Miami to Port-au-Prince flights: what to book instead while PAP is closed

There is no Miami to Port-au-Prince flight you can buy through March 2, 2027. Here is the route that works today, Miami to Cap-Haïtien, who flies it, what it costs, and how families are reaching the south.

If you searched "Miami to Port-au-Prince flights" and landed on a page that still shows fares, close it. As of September 24, 2026, no airline sells a scheduled flight from Miami to Port-au-Prince. American Airlines and JetBlue are barred from landing there by FAA NOTAM A0046/26 through March 2, 2027, Spirit, which once flew the route, ceased operations on May 2, 2026, and Sunrise Airways, which is Haitian and not bound by the order, has suspended its own Port-au-Prince flights for security reasons. Some booking sites keep the old route page alive because it still gets traffic. We would rather tell you the truth and show you what actually flies.

The route that works: Miami to Cap-Haïtien

Cap-Haïtien (CAP) is in the north, outside the airspace band the FAA closed, and it has become Haiti's international airport for this period. From Miami you have two choices.

Sunrise Airways flies Miami to Cap-Haïtien nonstop on Airbus A320 family aircraft, about two hours in the air. It also flies from Fort Lauderdale (three times a week since December 15, 2025), which is closer for most families in Broward. Days of the week move with demand and are confirmed when you search.

American Airlines starts a daily Miami to Cap-Haïtien flight on November 1, 2026 on a Boeing 737 MAX 8. It departs Miami at 10:15 am and lands at Cap-Haïtien at 12:15 pm; the return leaves at 1:15 pm and reaches Miami at 3:15 pm. Because it is American, you can connect on one ticket from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando and Montreal, with bags checked through.

Live prices, both airlines, are on our Miami to Cap-Haïtien page. Indicative one-way totals from Miami and Fort Lauderdale start around $400 including taxes and our service fee in low season, and run 25 to 45 percent higher from December 15 to January 8 and in July and August.

Getting from Cap-Haïtien to the south

This is the question behind every "Miami to Port-au-Prince" search, so here is the plain answer.

The road, Route Nationale 1 through Gonaïves and Saint-Marc, is about 250 km and passes through the Arcahaie and Cabaret corridor that armed groups have held intermittently since 2023. The State Department advisory for Haiti is Level 4, Do Not Travel, updated July 10, 2026, and it names the roads into the capital specifically. Jetvala does not sell, arrange or recommend ground transport between Cap-Haïtien and Port-au-Prince in 2026. Our ground travel guide explains the route, what people who do it actually do, and the signals they watch.

Domestic Haitian flights between Cap-Haïtien and Port-au-Prince have operated at times. Availability changes week to week, and the approach into Port-au-Prince is the same area the FAA is concerned about. Ask us on WhatsApp for the current picture; we will tell you what we know and what we do not.

What most families have done in 2026 is meet in the north. Relatives from the south travel up in daylight with people they know, meet you in Cap-Haïtien, Milot or Limbé, and everyone travels home together on their own terms. Our transfer partners cover Cap-Haïtien city, Milot, Limbé, Plaine-du-Nord, Grande-Rivière-du-Nord, Labadee, Cormier and the Ouanaminthe border with fixed prices agreed before you land.

When Port-au-Prince might reopen

The FAA order expires March 2, 2027 unless it is renewed. Every order since November 2024 has been renewed for another six months, so plan on Cap-Haïtien for the winter. American has said its Port-au-Prince plans depend on the FAA. The moment anything changes, it shows on our Haiti flight status page, along with the date we last verified it. Our short explainer Is Port-au-Prince airport open? is the page to share with family who ask.

If you already bought a Miami to Port-au-Prince ticket

Any US airline ticket to Port-au-Prince dated before March 2, 2027 has been cancelled by the airline. Under US Department of Transportation rules you are owed a full refund to the original payment method, not a voucher, and you do not have to accept a rebooking you do not want. If you booked through Jetvala, message us and we will file the refund and put you on a Cap-Haïtien flight in the same conversation.

Booking tips for Miami departures

Fly from Fort Lauderdale if you live in Broward and Sunrise's days suit you; it is a smaller airport with shorter lines. Once American starts on November 1, Miami has a flight every day, which matters for funerals and fixed dates: if a three-times-weekly Sunrise flight cancels, the next one may be two or three days away, while American can rebook you the next morning. Sunrise includes one 23 kg (50 lb) checked bag on international fares; American includes one 50 lb bag on every fare except Basic Economy. No single bag over 32 kg (70 lb) is accepted by either. Arrive three hours before departure; Cap-Haïtien hand-inspects every checked bag and a full flight takes time to process.

Search Miami to Cap-Haïtien or Fort Lauderdale to Cap-Haïtien now, or message us on WhatsApp in English, Kreyòl or French and we will find the flight with you.
